Introduction
The role of the educational institution is to promote or develop people economically , physically, psychologically and socially. We live in a country where 44.7% ( UNDP Human Development Reports ) people are below the line of poverty. Which means half of our population deprived from basic necessities. On the other hand our overall literacy rate is 60.7%( Pakistan Bureau of Statistics PBS ) almost 22.8 million children between the ages of 5 to 16 are out of schools ( UNICEF Pakistan , 2023). Although a large portion of illiteracy comes from rural areas, where there are very few resources available to enroll children in school.
Kawish’s Welfare Foundation Vision for Change
Recognizing the urgent need to transform rural education, the Kawish Welfare Foundation launched its Iqra School initiative with a simple but powerful goal to provide quality, inclusive and affordable education to underprivileged children in remote areas.
Kawish believes that every child, regardless of their background, deserves a chance to learn, grow and contribute meaningfully to society. To address this issue, Kawish Welfare Foundation has launched a literacy network in Pakistan’s underserved areas. It is currently operating 240 schools (6000+ students) under the “Iqra Project” in remote regions.
Kawish Welfare Foundation Educational uplift
The Kawish Welfare Foundation began its educational initiative with a simple yet powerful model ” one child, one teacher and one room”. This approach was launched in the most underprivileged and remote rural areas of Pakistan, where children had no access to formal education and schools were either nonexistent or too far to reach.
Kawish Welfare Foundation starts by identifying rural areas where children lack access to education. They engage with local communities to build trust and support.
Schools often begin in a single room with one teacher and a few students, using donated spaces. To encourage attendance, Kawish provides free uniforms, books, and stationery. Local individuals, especially women, are trained as teachers to promote community involvement and make education more accessible for girls.
As enrollment grows, the school expands with more classrooms, staff, and learning activities. Kawish also ensures quality through regular monitoring, teacher training, and support programs.
